Hard drive is not the same for desktop or 24x7 business purpose. A desktop drive will give you 3-year life cycle; and enterprise drive has longer MTBF that normally will give your more than 3-year .. or 5-year warrany. The difference is duty cycle for the hard drive. Desktop drive is between 10% - 15% for 3hr to 5hr daily use; enterprise drive should have 20% to 40% duty cycle for 24x7 opertation, mostly a server to serve other clients. Personally, I'll use RAID-1 for critical data in a desktop or workstation. RAID-5 or RAID-6 with 1 out of 4 as hot spare with supported hardware RAID controller. Drive will go bad .. just WHEN .. so make your critical data redundant if you can. Exteranl enclosure or NAS are popular now. Email me if you have any questions.
